As we age, it is normal for many of us to experience some short-term memory loss. However there are some types of memory loss that are not considered part of normal aging. Unfortunately, the person with memory loss and his/her family may not recognize the symptoms indicating a problem.
It is important to be evaluated if you or someone you know has experienced sudden or ongoing memory loss of any degree. Evaluation should include tests to rule out underlying medical problems that can affect memory. Early evaluation, and treatment, if necessary, may help prolong memory and functional ability, as well as improve the long-term quality of life for the person with memory loss and his/her family.
